Oak Ribbed Socks and Targhee
A late picture of the Oak Ribbed Socks. I quite like them.
Maidenhair is trudging along, and while I’m unemployed now, I’m not spending much time knitting during the day. It’s mostly spinning, most of the time around here.
The Coopworth is all combed up, and I have enough top to spin one more of those giant skeins. It’s a little upsetting to think that all this work is only resulting in about a thousand yards of yarn. The three-ply better be worth it.
It’ll probably be another week or so before I get started, as the Lendrum’s currently occupied with a fine spinning project — in preparation for lace knitting, I’m spinning up eight ounces of Targhee top. The first bobbin is already done.
Forgive the photograph. The singles are 36-40 WPI, and I’m aiming for an 18-22 WPI two-ply. Hopefully, there’ll be enough for a small lace shawl, like Fiber Trends’ Butterfly Garden.
I’ve been working on some learning projects, too, and the aforementioned new Jacob fleece has been a big help. I’m trying to learn to spin with my left hand forward, so I can use my first wheel without pain — a regular Ashford Traditional with the flier on the left. Thanks to the Jacob fleece, I’m learning to handcard and spin long draw.
These projects, in addition to a big stack of “professional development”-type textbooks, have kept me pretty busy. I think I’d rather be working.
